It was by chance I was able to come to Indonesia specifically for sourcing materials and to investigate production factories. In Bali they are renown for their artisan handicraft work in leather goods and shoes for many years. Upon arrival at 6pm, I am greeted by Badrun and Sri and driven back to the villa where Sri has prepared a simple Indonesian dish of Kangkung vegetables, tempe and ayam goreng for dinner. The villa has no wifi and I’m sitting in the French restaurant next door, organising the schedule for the week while being surrounded by foreigners on honeymoon and the sound of live Gamelan throughout the restaurant. It is indeed a surreal contrast from our cold and dreary springtime in Sydney. After prepping the samples, quick night swim and turn in early to hit the ground running tomorrow morning.
Many thanks to Yoan for the heftily discounted flight, which I would not have been able afford without!
